The term somatic comes from the Greek word soma, which means “the body as perceived from within.” Somatics emphasizes the embodied experience and recognizes that our physical sensations, emotions, and movements hold valuable insights and information. We often hold stressful or traumatic events in the body that were unable to fully discharge or release at the time they were experienced, causing a build-up of stress and pressure and even physical pain to manifest in the body. To restore the body to balance and flow, we must allow the body to fully feel and experience without judging, trying to fix, or diminishing it. The body knows what it needs to heal; we just need to listen with presence and an open heart.

I spent most of my life believing that someone else knew what was best for me. I was always searching for the next vitamin, the next book, the next doctor, or the next teacher that would heal me and make me whole. Only once I stopped searching outside of myself and began to dive into the innate wisdom of my own body did I begin to heal physically and emotionally, allowing my truth and wisdom to lead the way. My journey has given me a passion to help others do the same. Kundalini yoga and Somatic breathwork are incredible tools that have helped me go deeper into the innate wisdom of the body, allowing for greater presence, authenticity, and healing.

I am a certified level 1 kundalini yoga teacher, Soma+IQ™ breathwork facilitator, and currently enrolled in the integrative psychology program to become a somatic facilitator.
